International Teacher Certification Program

A Tutu Workshop will be offered twice per year. This workshop lasts 6 weeks, and meets once a week for two to four hours, depending on need. Classical tutu construction will be taught in the first course, and romantic tutu construction will be taught in the second course. The method of construction for the bodice in each of these courses is based on the design and construction method employed by Peter Farmer of the Royal Ballet and May Ishimoto, formerly head costumer of American Ballet Theatre. This skill is extremely valuable and becomes marketable.

It takes approximately 100 hours to build a classical tutu, and custom tutus for classical ballerinas are priced from $1200 to $5000 per tutu. A parent with young children who must stay home can do quite well in this side business, particularly with the close proximity to New York City. The Academy will keep a register of those who have completed the course and demonstrated professional levels of craftsmanship and design so that when inquiries are made for custom built tutus, those individuals will receive the work.

To contribute to any of the current MFAB programs or future projects, send your contribution check with the specific program clearly indicated in the memo line. Otherwise, contributions will be accepted for general operating expenses. All contributions are fully tax-deductible.
