The Lower School takes students who are beginning, or who have had prior
training at other schools, and prepares them for eventual entry into the Upper
School. The number of classes for this school depends on the age, natural
ability, technical level and general art knowledge the student has. Entry into
the Lower School begins at ages 8-12.
The Lower School requires students to take a set number of ballet technique
classes each week, and one general arts class. The general arts class can be
at another facility (piano lessons, art classes, etc.) upon review of that school’s
curriculum and pre-arranged credit. Otherwise they must take the general art
class offered at the Academy or at another facility by arrangement through the
Academy. A list of Academy registered classes is provided at orientation.
There are four levels in the Lower School (Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4) and
movement to the next level is contingent on passing the ballet technique review
panel and taking a written general arts exam or the equivalent.
